Gracia y Tenacidad – Una Mañana en Quarry Lakes
Date: November 2, 2025
Location: Quarry Lakes, Fremont, California
Camera / Lens: Canon R5 Mark II, EF 70–200mm f/4 + 1.4× Extender
Theme: Minimalism and Everyday Life
Caption / Reflection
This morning, daylight savings gave me an extra hour — and a reason to step outside again with my camera. At Quarry Lakes, the light was soft, the air cool. A lone heron stood still among bare branches and reflections, embodying calm and patience. Not far away, a small sparrow-like bird hopped onto a rock, pecking at crumbs with quiet determination.
Together, they became symbols of two ways to meet life — the heron’s grace in stillness, and the sparrow’s grit in motion. Both reminded me that beauty doesn’t always shout; sometimes it just waits or persists, quietly, in plain sight.

Light Notes
Early morning light with soft reflections and diffused contrast; gentle highlights on water and rock.
Mood / Intention
Observation and renewal — rediscovering peace through small moments.
Post-Processing Notes
- RAW files reviewed and rated in FastRawViewer, converted to DNG using Adobe DNG Converter before import.
- Heron image: Processed in Silver Efex for refined black-and-white minimalism, emphasizing tonal depth and negative space.
- Sparrow image: Processed in Lightroom with medium contrast and shadow lift on the head for better eye and feather detail.
- Subtle global adjustments to preserve a calm, natural tone.
What I Like / What I’d Improve
I like how the two frames contrast yet harmonize — one serene, one lively. Next time, I might explore a wider framing for the heron to enhance spatial rhythm.
Inspiration / Reference
Inspired by the Chinese watercolor — and the poetry in ordinary life.
