Reflection
I went out early for sunrise, even though the clouds were heavy. Before entering the park, I saw a thin layer of fog resting on the grass beside the road. That was enough to excite me. Fog never waits.
I photographed as I walked.
At one point, a man stopped near me — Indian, I think — and began speaking in a language I didn’t understand. He pointed toward the lake and said a few words. I caught a familiar sound or two, but not the meaning. I smiled. He smiled back. Then he walked on.
It felt complete without explanation.
Halfway around the lake, the fog began to lift. Most of it was gone by the time I finished the loop. That was fine. The moment had already passed through me.

Radiation Fog
It’s the classic early‑morning fog that forms when:
- The ground cools rapidly overnight
- The air right above it reaches the dew point
- Moisture condenses into tiny droplets that stay close to the surface
- Wind is calm or nearly zero
This creates that low, ground‑hugging fog you love — the kind that looks like it’s lying on the earth rather than floating in the air.
It’s also the most fragile type of fog. A tiny bit of sunlight or a slight breeze can lift it, thin it, or erase it entirely. That’s why it often appears before sunrise and disappears quickly afterward. I hadn’t seen this dense a radiation fog before, and I returned the next few days without seeing it again.
